Cannes Recap: best in black

Lily Donaldson in Saint Laurent is my absolute favorite 'best in black'. All is lovely: the hair, the gown is occasion appropriate and season appropriate. The Palme D'Or goes to Lily Lovely.

Not only did Ms. Blanchett garner rave reviews on screen (which is obviously the most important place to garner praise) but also on the red carpet. This Armani gown gets the Silver Palme.

Jeanne Damas in her sleek and simple Gucci gown gets the bronze.  No jewels, wind swept hair: I like it.

Julianne Moore wore Ralph Lauren during the opening ceremony. She came to collect her award for best actress which she won last year (Maps to the Stars) and was red carpet perfect. Not an easy robe to pull off; Ms. Moore did.

Honorable mention to Ms. Laetitia Castia, appearing in Nina Ricci on the last day of Cannes. Lovely even though the hair style/cut I find a bit yikes.

Luma Grothe strolled the red carpet in a short LBD, looks lovely from shiney sleek head to black varnished toes. Bravo. Luma is a model from Brazil and I won't ask what she was doing there.

Here's Ms. Emma Stone appearing at the photocall for "Irrational Man" wearing Oscar de la Renta. All in all, lovely although I find the dress too dressy for a midday photocall session. This is Cannes girl. Wear something less lacey and puffy.

French actress Louise Bourgoin got the midday LBD right. French perfection and her newly cropped locks actually look good. Too good. Too enticing to try on one's self. Don't do it. I have succumbed to temptation too often and howled with regret. Louise is french; different rules apply to french women.

Charlize Theron attempted a tough lady leather look, which, you'd think, she could pull off. I don't like it. Too much going on around the face, too hot for Cannes. But of course, all you have to do is look at the legs and all is forgiven.
