what's new pussycat?

'Orange is the New Black' on Netflix
When the hot wind carresses your dress, beckoning for a dance, then you know it's summer. Summer is easy, summer is hot, summer is sweaty and summer is awesome.

One of the nicest things: Summer TV. At least we think so. And "Orange is the New Black" has gotten great reviews (from the creators of 'Weeds' and 'Oz'). We have put it on our list. Honestly, what is nicer than having the windows open at night, crickets chirping and watching five episodes until dawn?

Katy Perry at the Premiere of Smurfs 2
Celebrities emerge from their holiday hidaway to promote the mostly lame movie premiere fare. Katy Perry deserves an honorable mention because we think her outfit sweet - from the satin toes over the Tadashi Shoji frock up to the Lauren Bacall coif: well done.  Also - we have a soft spot for blue creatures.

Jessica Chastain in Dolce&Gabbana at Giffoni Film Festival, Italy
Ms Chastain is obviously avoiding the sun even in Italy. The red carpet is a better place with her on it. Ms. Chastain doned Dolce&Gabbana at the Giffoni Film Festival,  the largest children's film festival (did not know this) and the small village of Giffoni Valle Piana in Southern Italy hosts it. We think we have to put this on our list to visit some time. Okay. Maybe not. Ms. Chastain looks lovely as always. And if you haven't seen "The Help" or "The Tree of Life" of "Zero Dark Thirty" yet, we recommend doing so.

Amanda Seyfried plugging 'Lovelace' in Balmain
One of the more interesting films being released this summer is "Lovelace" simply because Ms. Seyfried is charming enough to warrant a visit to your local movie theater. The trailer peaks one's interest, the cast is stellar (Peter Sarsgaard, James Franco, Sharon Stone, Chloe Sevigny, Hank Azaria, Chris Noth) and it's about porn and Ms. Lovelace's way out. Could be cool. We shall report back. Here, Ms. Seyfried was plugging the pic on a morning show. Cute but we can't quite understand why the wintery look (Balmain Resort 2014) It makes me itchy just looking at her.

Ms. Lopez and her boyfriend strolling somewhere (New York I think) in July. Not sure the high-waisted shorts are working for her. Not sure shorts work for her at all.

Kirsten Dunst and Garrett Hedlund in LA last month. Cute, cute and cute again. Nothing more to add. How can one tell they're in LA? He's wearing a sweater. The nights are cool in LA. That's why we love it.

The Three Graces plugging "Reds2"
Earlier in July, we were graced with the presence of Queen Helen, wayward Princess Mary Louise and sad Princess Catherine. Do we need to mention the reason? Well, I suppose. It was for the premiere of that even sadder film "Reds 2".  Our Queen of Hearts Helen looked fab, wayward Princess Mary Louise cute (except for the shoes; Girl, get ye on some strappy sandals or Mary Janes) and sad Princess Catherine has to stop dressing like a drag queen. Really.

Daria Webowy in Lanvin
We aren't crazy excited about the dress (Lanvin). However, what we do love love love about this beige dress/shoes pairing: the red red lipstick. What a lovely splash of color. And a really cool idea. The lips make Daria Werbowy's presence absolutely fabulous. Seen in July in Paris.

Cate Blanchett in Roksanda Ilincic plugging "Blue Jasmine"
Ms. Cate Blanchett doing press for Woody Allen's latest "Blue Jasmine" in Roksanda Ilincic. Her performance is appropriately broken diva; the film is worth seeking out. A summer isn't a summer without Woody Allen. Ms. Blanchett: you are wonderful but we do not like the pointy shoes.

Tilda Swinton in Voluminous Valentino
Tilda Swinton in Valentino promoting something or other in Seoul (we really need to find out what) last month. We do wonder why she is wearing a coat because it gets just as hot and sweaty in Seoul as in NYC. But okay. You are the Tilda. We suppose you may wear anything you like. And please note: beige again.

Vanessa Paradis on the streets of Paris, July 2013
Ms. Vanessa Paradis dancing in the streets of Paris last month. Very sweet. Love the shoes. Love the dress on her. We are looking forward to "Fading Gigolo", an upcoming movie scheduled for release later this year; directed by John Turturro and starring Liev Schreiber, Woody Allen, Sofia Vergara, Sharon Stone and of course, the songstress Ms. Paradis. Allez!

Kate Moss at The Ivy, London wearing Prada
La Moss took time off between holidays to appear in Prada for her tech line for Carphone Warehouse (doesn't sound very glam, does it?) Nevertheless, she is as always lovely, sexy, cool. What more is there to say except Bon Voyage to your next beach destination Kate. We so look forward to your next appearance.

Diane Kruger in Jonathan Saunders plugging "The Bridge"
We complete our July recap with Ms. Kruger in Los Angeles for the premiere of the FX series "The Bridge America" wearing Jonathan Saunders. We did a review of the first episode and we can report back, after watching weekly, we like it. Not loving it. But liking it. It grows on you.

Lovelies: enjoy the summer. We return with more on Friday.
