arsenic and new lace

Nina Ricci fall winter 2012
Aunt Martha: For a gallon of elderberry wine, I take one teaspoon full of arsenic, then add half a teaspoon full of strychnine, and then just a pinch of cyanide. "Arsenic and Old Lace" - a brilliantly delightful comedy starring Cary Grant and Peter Lorre as Dr. Einstein -  is the only good association I have with lace, that and maybe widows standing at their husbands graves, black lace veils pouring off their bowed heads: very theatrical. Leave it to Miuccia Prada to make lace fun and frivolous  by adding fruity colors and voila: one of the main trends this season although I am still of the opinion lace should be consumed in small doses (like elderberry wine)

Miu Miu Spring Summer 2012
Did you know that after Marie Antoinette was guillotined, lace makers were killed too? Dangerous job working your nimble fingers for the nobility in 1793.  Lace is luxury, like fur or feathers, so only the real thing will do. More lace on pinterest - 9 Essentials for Spring

aren't they lovely? Actually, I think it's something you can do easily with a somewhat less pricey pair of shoes. I found an old black lace shawl while cleaning out my parents' house. Now all I need is a pair of scissors and some glue.
