swedish designers: Filippa K

Filippa K Fall Winter 2012
Although New York, London, Milan and Paris are the fashion events everybody talks about attracting the biggest names, there is lovely fashion to be seen and had in other places as well. I discovered Filippa K in Amsterdam; turns out the Netherlands is one of Ms. Knuttson's biggest markets. Her style is simple, well-crafted, wearable and like most Swedish things, cool&trendy without really trying. Filippa Knuttson reminds me a bit of Gwyneth Paltrow with her Pilates and health food philosophy but I won't hold that against her. I still like her clothes.

So far, Filippa K. is available online on European portals. In Canada and the US, you'll still have to make the trip to a boutique near you.  The clothes are from her fall winter 2012 collection shown at Sweden Fashion Week.

Filippa K's clothes are wearable in any season although, to be honest, I'm not sure how to wear a silk shift dress in a Swedish winter except underneath a bear suit. Be that as it may, I love shift dresses because the body shapes the dress as opposed to the dress shaping the body. One needs both opportunities. This shift dress is perfect for Spring: combined with a cardigan, a leather jacket or a simple A line coat.
