red carpet re-cap: Oscar 2011: the 3 best dressed ladies

Michelle Williams in Chanel at the Oscars 2011
Honestly, when you look through previous red carpet events - especially the Oscars - most of the gowns are boring. I am so sick of strapless princess dresses and strapless mermaid dresses and strapless squishy boobs dresses. There are so many fabulous dresses shown on the runways, can't your stylist think of anything else? Also note to the hair stylists: the flowy, loosey hair is so lame. Please, spend an afternoon at the Metropolitan museum. Get some inspiration from Tizian. Or Rubens. Really.

Michelle Williams was one of three stars last year who rose above the crowd: fresh as cream and sweet as a peach. The gamine hair a la Jean Seberg is wonderfully nouvel vague and totally suits her. I love the make-up. I love the dress (Chanel). She is often criticized for being too bland. All I can say to her is this: sweetheart, you looked awesome. And I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night.

A rock n' roll chick with red hair is able to pull off pale yellow: voilà Florence Welch (lead singer of The Florence and The Machine): Ms. Welch, you are a welcome sight on this parade of toy solider sameness. Bravo.

Lastly, we have my favorite bad actor Matthew McConaughey's girlfriend, Camila Alves. She looked like a true star: a black satin Kaufman Franco gown billowing around her, the hair pulled back with diamond earrings. Simply beautiful.

We shall look out for you ladies tomorrow night. Hopefully a few more ladies will dare to surprise with something different.
