New York Fashion Week: a model's style and Cushnie et Ochs

shoe rehearsal at Cushnie et Ochs
Behold a model in her own clothes during a shoe rehearsal for the Cushnie et Ochs show at Milk Studios this afternoon. Cushnie et Ochs (aka Carly and Michelle) "have been critical darlings ever since starting their business in 2009, just a few years out of college. They have been prominently featured in WWD and Vogue, have won prestigious honors, like the Ecco Domani Foundation Award, and were one of 10 finalists for last year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award," as stated in today's New York Times.  It was Michelle Obama (wearing a green gown) though that gave them the "I wear you and you shall be famous" effect.

The fall winter collection fitted the venue: sleek and simple. Nothing hugely exciting. Morticia would definitely buy all the floor length form fitting black dresses (intentional non-use of 'gown' as I considered them all just long dresses) There are few dresses I'd buy although the just-below-the-knee length on most of the dresses is a tricky length for anyone except very skinny models who have no calf muscles whatsoever.

NB: The lead up to the Cushnie et Ochs Fall Winter ready-to-wear collection took about an hour. The show lasted ten minutes, then everybody rushed off to the next thing. I'm sure this isn't new to anyone familiar with the scene. And it wasn't that new to me because I'd heard about it but experiencing it firsthand is rather fascinating. Firsthand via live stream (I don't like crowds), powered by madeinfashion. (There is also an app for smart phones. Still a bit buggy but worth downloading. Search for Made Fashion Week in the app store. It's free.)
