World Cup 2010 for Dummies - Part XI - and Good Spirits

First game played. South Africa v. Mexico: 1 - 1.
Second game played. Uruguay v. France: 0 - 0.

(Oh, and just in case someone oversaw this little detail: your picks are for the best two teams in each group after playing four games each within that group. Which means, we have two weeks of at least three games per day. I love the first round. )

Bit of trivia: the South African coach earns € 190,000 per month.

Group H: SSHC

Spain: Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres are fit and awesome. Coach Vicente Del Bosque says this: "We have finished our preparations and we can go to South Africa in good spirits." Spain beat Germany in the Euro 2008 final, by the way. If Spain wins this World Cup, they'd be the second team to win two major championships back to back. FIFA Ranking: 2

Switzerland: A decent team. Did surprisingly well in the Euro Cup two years ago. I don't know. I just don't equate exciting football with the Swiss. But they are decent bankers. FIFA Ranking: 24

Honduras: Only team that begins with an "H" in this tournament. And I know where Honduras is (between Guatemala and Nicaragua). Honduras returns to global football's top table after 28 years away. Their only previous appearance at the finals was in Spain 1982. FIFA ranking: 38

Chile: Ok. They're from South America but are not as brilliant as the countries on the East side of the country. Maybe there's an invisible east/west divide, making all the countries on the east side of the continent just better (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay). Dunno. That's my theory at least. FIFA ranking: 18 (maybe I'd better re-think my theory)

My picks: Spain 1st, Chile 2nd.

Pic of the Spanish team during a friendly against England. There are no friendlies when England is involved.
